Boy, 7, thanks Bing

Seven-year old Nathaniel Quimmel of Brgy. Singcang, Bacolod City, visited Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center to thank him for the city’s help for his immediate operation, a press release from City Hall said.

Quimmel, who was suffering from hernia, was operated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital on Feb. 4 with the help of the city.

His mother, Teresa Quimmel, a fish vendor, said she was very relieved and thankful to the city government for the treatment of her son, the release added.*

Medical mission helps
sugar workers, families

The 108th medical dental mission of the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc. was held at the SONEDCO Elementary School in Brgy. Camugao, Kabankalan City, recently, a press release from the organization said.

It said 402 sugar workers from nearby haciendas, small planters and their families benefited from the activity: 353 availed of free medical consultations and medicines, 59 had dental extractions, 25 availed of the ECG service, and more than 200 children and some adults were fed.

Prevalent illnesses discovered were upper respiratory tract infection, abdominal pain, severe cough and colds, fever and first degree malnutrition among children, hypertension, hyperacidity, LBM, gastritis, arthritis and anemia for adults, the press release added.

The team was headed by Neolita Aliminaza, program coordinator of SIFI. Assisting the SIFI were the URC SONEDCO, the barangay council of Camugao headed by Brgy. Capt. Nestor Dolar; SONEDCO Elementary School, led by its principal Orlie Villanueva, and Provident Pharmaceutical.

The medical dental mission to outlying sugar farms is part of SIFI’s thrust to regularly provide medical and dental services as well as health education to sugar workers and their families, the press release added.*

Fire safety inspections, drills set

The Bureau of Fire Protection will conduct a series of activities in Bacolod City for Fire Prevention Month observance in March in line with Presidential Proclamation 115-A on the theme “Makiisa, Makialam, Makipagtulungan upang Sunog ay Maiwasan”.

City Fire Marshal Pamela Candido, said in a press release, that opening activities on March 1, include a motorcade around major streets of Bacolod, to be participated in by BFP personnel and partners from the local government, nongovernment organizations, and private institutions; the blessing of the Emergency Medical and Dental Service Office; and the 6th quiz bee and poster-marking contest.
