Police warns vs.
counterfeit bills

Public and business establishments were warned yesterday against the renewed circulation of counterfeit bills by Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz after a mall in the city was victimized twice by customers who used fake money to pay for items they purchased.

Eric Tayactac, 49, head guard of Gaisano City mall told the police that a female teenager bought several items from their grocery section and gave their cashier P1,000 bill payment.

When their cashier checked the money Tayactac said, she found out to be fake.

About three hours later, another female customer bought items from the dry good section of Gaisano City mall and paid P1,000 for it, and again the cashier of found out that the money was fake.

Both bills bear serial number 610332 and were brought to the Bangko Central ng Pilipinas-Bacolod branch for verification, the police said.

De la Paz said the public and the staff of business establishments in the city should by vigilant and scrutinize properly the money they receive before accepting them.

He also instructed all the station commanders to intensify the campaign against fake bills and ordered the intelligence branch to locate where the source of did these fake bills.

De la Paz recalled that a residence was raided in Brgy. Singcang Airport last year, during which several fake bills were recovered and a couple and their companion were arrested and charged in court.

The individual or individuals behind the renewed circulation of fake bills could not be the same as those apprehended before, he said.*APN
