BIR: Some Bacolod taxpayers
declared incorrect transactions

The Bureau of Internal Revenue, Revenue Region 12, Bacolod City said it has received notice from BIR-Manila that there are taxpayers from the region who did not report their correct transactions and may face civil and criminal cases if they fail to settle their deficiencies.

Perfecto Aranas, BIR regional director, said yesterday at the launching of the tax campaign at the Robinsons Place-Bacolod, that it is really difficult to hide transactions now with the BIR as everything is now computerized.

The BIR has recorded the top 20,000 corporations and top 5,000 individual taxpayers of the region and these are all required to submit their reports and transactions electronically, he said.

Under this scheme, BIR will be able to track down their transactions, and whether they have declared and paid the right tax, Aranas added.

In 2011, RR12 collected more than P200 million in tax deficiencies after discovering taxpayers who did not pay correct tax liabilities but they were not considered as tax evaders since their declarations were below 30 percent, Aranas said.

“I now appeal to all taxpayers to file and pay taxes correctly as you will be helping the government and avoiding sanctions,” he said.

If they refuse to comply, there will be sanctions and they can be placed under the Run After Tax Evaders program and be subjected to criminal and civil liabilities, Aranas also said.

The BIR campaign was also organized to remind taxpayers the deadline for the filing of income tax for 2011 is on April 15, 2012.

Aranas said he believes the activity can entice all taxpayers to pay their taxes correctly and promptly.

Celia King, BIR deputy commissioner for resource management group, cited the RR12-Bacolod for its immense and proactive contribution to its tax collection last year with P6.15 billion.

BIR also unveiled the tax campaign logo capturing the essence on the roles of BIR in governance and its undying patriotism, Lucita Rodriguez, taxpayers assistance service of BIR national office, said. It also reinforces its position as partner of government in nation building, she added. *LTG
