Bacolod Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said yesterday that a counter-proposal is being prepared to the request of businessmen in Bacolod City involving the revision of the revenue code and a win-win situation is being sought for both parties.
Sayson told the DAILY STAR he cannot yet divulge the proposal as initial presentations being made to Mayor Evelio Leonardia. Once everything is set, they will hold another public hearing with the taxpayers and businessmen.
At the launching of the tax campaign of Bureau of Internal Revenue, Revenue Region 12-Bacolod at Robinsons Place, Sayson said he hopes they could have a record collection on tax payments of the city and that taxpayers will be able to pay correct taxes.
“We are trying our best to improve our collection, just like the BIR and we have just adjusted the revenue code that had been untouched in the past 18 years,” Sayson said.
He also said that the city is a withholding agent of the BIR. It means that the city automatically deducts or retains the value-added tax for BIR remittances to those who have transactions with them, adding that, Bacolod was able to remit to BIR P36 million as a withholding agent.
He added that they also signed a memorandum of agreement with the BIR to ensure efficient and proper payment of taxes.
Sayson also congratulated the BIR for organizing the campaign and said he hopes taxpayers will be educated in proper tax evaluation and payments to the government.* LTG
