The Central Negros Electric Cooperative yesterday reiterated in a press release the requirement of the National Electrification Administration, that any member-consumer interested to run as Member of the Board of Directors of his or her electric cooperative is required to have attended at least two Annual General Membership Assemblies within five years.
This must be prior to the filing of his or her Certificate of Candidacy being part of the duties and responsibilities of a coop member.
This additional requirement took effect January 1, 2012 based on a NEA Institutional Advisory No. 06 series of 2009 entitled “Implementation of NEA Memorandum No. 2009-011 on the Additional Qualification Requirements for Candidates to the Electric Cooperative Board of Directors and Officer/s of the Board”.
The advisory said that it aimed to clarify inquiries on NEA Memorandum 2009-011 on the attendance to at least 2 AGMAs by prospective candidates for the Board of ECs as additional qualification requirements.
The NEA Memorandum is still in full force and effect which commenced 15 days after its publication in the 12 May 2009 issue of the Manila Times, the press release said.
To ensure proper dissemination of the additional requirement especially those with intentions to run as Director, Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. published NEA Memorandum No. 2009-011 in the local dailies in June 2010, the press release said.
On May 25, 2011, CENECO again reminded its member-consumers of the additional requirement through its Notice of the 36th Annual General Membership Assembly, also published in the local dailies, the press release also said.*
