A series of earthquake and fire drills will be held next month to prepare the public against calamities by the Dumaguete City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council
The drills will be held for City Hall employees, schools, especially in far-flung barangays, the private sector, and the public, CDRRMC head Jose Chu said, adding that the activities are also in line with the Fire Prevention Month, March.
Chu said there is need to inform the people about mitigating measures and procedures to follow when calamity strikes.
The CDRRMC is awaiting the budget for drills to be sourced from the city’s P21-million calamity fund.
Randy Saldua of CDRRMC said the drills will also inform people how to avoid panic during a disaster.
The CDRRMC is also waiting for a report from Leonides Caro of the City Engineer’s Office on the recent inspection on the sturdiness of structures, including the City Hall and schools.*JFP
