Farmer brutally killed

A farmer was shot and hacked dead by his drinking buddy, over a misunderstanding, in Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday night.

Police Officer 3 Ricky Taledo, case investigator, identified the fatality as Joenifar Deopilo, 31, of Brgy. Tagoc, Kabankalan.

Investigation showed that Deopilo was having drinks with the suspect, Edwin Gargar, “alias Dodong”, 30, of Purok Paraiso in Brgy. Hilamonan, and two other men identified as “alias Ikong” and Arthur Ausan, in a store in the purok before the incident happened.

Police said Deopilo allegedly tried to hit “alias Ikong” with an empty beer bottle for a still unknown reason, but hit Gargar instead. Gargar reportedly drew a firearm, shot Deopilo in the back, and hacked him repeatedly even when he was already on the ground.

Gargar fled, bringing the gun and the butcher’s knife, the police added, while Deopilo got up, went to his father’s house that is located several meters from where the incident happened, but died there, Toledo said.

Supt. Calixto Mabugat, Kabankalan police chief, said they are preparing charges for homicide against Gargar.

Meanwhile, Francisco Edona, 74, of Vito Street, Brgy. 2 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, surrendered to the police at about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Edona has an arrest warrant for frustrated homicide, issued by Regional Trial Court Judge George Patriarca, who set his bail at P24,000.*APN

Car burglars
strike again: police

Car burglars forced open the car of an engineer, that was parked at Hilado Street, Bacolod City, Wednesday morning, and took cash and several items valued at P67,000.

Joe An De la Paz, 40, of Phase 1, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod, told the police that he parked his vehicle in front of the Apollo Restaurant at about 8 p.m. Tuesday and went to a nearby establishment.

When he returned the following day, De la Paz claimed he found the right rear windshield of his vehicle broken and some of his belongings gone.

Among the items stolen were a DSLR camera valued at P35,000; a digital camera worth P6,000; , a back pack, that contained clothes valued at P5,000; and P7,000 in cash, the police said.

Burglars also took De la Paz’s shoulder bag, valued at P1,000, that contained a multi-tool knife worth P3,000, documents, identification cards, car key and checks, and another digital camera and other items valued at P10,000, the police also said.

Bacolod City Police Special Operations Task Group head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz said the burglars who took De la Paz’s things may not be the same ones who victimized Nikki Puentevella last month.

Intelligence reports show that many burglars operate in the area of Police Station 2, where the cars of Puentevella and De la Paz were burglarized, Rapiz said.

He said they are working on the arrest of these suspects, who, he added, could be residents of the nearby squatters area.*APN
