Two separate rallies calling for the ouster of Chief Justice Renato Corona are set in front of the Fountain of Justice at Araneta Street in Bacolod City this afternoon as the nation marks the 26th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Bayan Negros will gather at the Fountain of Justice from 1 to 3 p.m. to call for the conviction of Chief Justice Renato Corona, and for former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to be immediately transferred to a regular jail instead of the Veterans Memorial Hospital, a press statement from the group said.

The group is also lambasting President Benigno Aquino for allegedly using the Corona impeachment and Arroyo trial to hide his inutile position on the series of price increases by the oil cartels.

The president has also shown his anti-national stand in allowing US troops to be stationed in the country despite the absence of any treaty and thus, a clear violation of the constitution, the Bayan statement said.

“Aquino has not made a clear statement on the distribution of Hda. Luisita to the farmers despite the recent Supreme Court ruling, he tolerates the butcher Gen. Jovito Palparan to make fun of the judicial system as families of his victims suffer, he refuses to release political prisoners languishing in congested prisons while the criminal Arroyo enjoys special privileges paid for by peoples’ money”, Christian Tuayon, BAYAN Negros secretary-general, said in the press release.

Tuayon also condemned what he called Aquino’s all-out campaign for mining operations and what he called the farcical peace talks of government with the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade.

Aquino has long betrayed the spirit of the Edsa by not standing with the people’s demand for genuine land reform, nationalist industrialization and upholding national patrimony over foreign interests, he added.

The members Negrenses for Corona Removal (N4CR), on the other hand, will come in yellow for a rally at the Fountain of Justice that will start at 5 p.m.

They are set to sign a manifesto calling for the resignation of Corona, Edwin Balajadia, an N4CR convenor, said.*
