Powerade's Gary David
continues scoring spree

MANILA -- Gary David is not letting any event, whether it be inside or outside the playing court, distract him from his objective of leading Powerade to a PBA championship.

That explains why David is picking up from where he left off, torching the hoops and the Tigers' opponents in the Commissioner's Cup and earning for himself the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the period Feb. 20 to 26.

The Philippine Cup Best Player scored 29 points in boosting Powerade to a come-from-behind 94-82 win over Meralco last Sunday that earned him the citation, which is his first in the import-spiked tournament and fifth in all for the season.

All for the benefit of Powerade, which has lately been in the center of franchise sale and trade rumors.  Foremost among those pleased is Tigers coach Bo Perasol. "What's amazing with what Gary is doing right now is that it seems he is enjoying performing in this kind of level. He makes what he does look easy," he said.

"The good thing about it is that his teammates are behind him. In a way, his ability is made even better in the framework of team play," added Perasol. David maintains he just want to do his part for the peers he considers as brothers.

David's latest performance came on the heels of his 32-point production in the Tigers conference debut that resulted in a similar 122-120 victory over Rain or Shine last Feb. 17.

Considered as currently the most prolific scorer in the PBA, the Dinalupihan, Bataan native may have failed to realize a 15th game of at least 30 points. But his streak of coming up with a minimum of 24 points an outing has now reached 16.

David simply shrugged off any allusion to such a scoring spree.*PNA
