Education Regional Director Mildred Garay yesterday reminded public schools in Western Visayas to keep graduation rites in March simple but memorable.
The Department of Education expects about 200,000 elementary pupils and 100,000 high school students to graduate in Western Visayas, she said.
The last day of school will be March 30 but graduation rites can start on March 29 and go beyond March 30, she said.
She also cautioned school officials against allowing expensive balls at hotels for students.
EducationSecretaryArminLuistro has called on all school heads to strictly observe the guidelines on the holding of graduation ceremonies, foremost of which is the non-collection of any kind of fees for the school year-closing rites.
“I will hold responsible all school heads and DepEd personnel who will violate this,” Luistro said in a press statement.
The education chief also stressed that no extravagant special graduation attire and extraordinary venue are required. Contribution for the yearbook (if any) is voluntary.
“The significance of the event should not be overshadowed by pomp, pageantry and unwarranted spending,” Luistro stressed.*CPG back
