Airport porters’ seminar today

A seminar-workshop for porters at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport will be conducted today by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Silay City government, a press release from Silay City said.

Airport manager Mecine Reyes said this aims to help porters improve their services.

Silay tourism officer and seminar resource person Ver Pacete, said the seminar will discuss the roles of porters at the departure and arrival areas, qualifications and skills, social ethics and protocol, hygiene and sanitation, knowledge of tourist attractions, language facility, and emergency responses.

The porters will be provided with uniform T-shirts with identification cards from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and later with proper vests from sponsors and donors, the press release added.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said Silay City has a commitment to support the management of the airport because his administration considers tourism a flagship program to promote Silay as a premier tourist destination.

Officer-in-charge Helen Catalbas of the Dept. of Tourism in Region VI, said that the airport in Silay and in Iloilo are the two main gateways for international visitors in Western Visayas.

CAAP, the provincial government of Negros Occidental, and the Silay and Bacolod cities, are also working for the arrival of 150 travel agents on March 6-7 for the Eagle Wings Award.

They are also preparing for the series of flights of Sky Pasada, between Silay and Boracay, through the Skybridge Airline Consultants, the press release added.*
