The Lopue’s Table Tennis Association headed by their president Leonito Lopue topped in the 1st Kalilangan Open Table Tennis Tournament held at Robinsons, General Santos City, recently.
The team were champions in four out of five events, namely the Team Event, Boy’s 17 under, Boy’s 13 under and Girl’s 13 under, and bested teams from Makati City, Hua Ching Foundation of Cebu, Davao, Ormoc City, Zamboanga and host General Santos City.
The LOPTTA team composed of Isaias Seronio, John Paul Gubaton, Siegfred Tupas and Marell Lagunday defeated Hua Ching Foundation represented by National Team Member Richard Gonzales, Glendo Nayre and Jimboy Baring in the semis (2-0).
Gubaton started the bid by beating Nayre in the first singles match (3-2) and the tandem of Seronio and Tupas sealed the deal by disposing Gonzales and Baring in the doubles (3-1). In the final, the team faces Makati City composed of Bong Palermo, Peter Francisco and Al Arnibal. Gubaton again maintained his composure by disposing Francisco (3-0) in the first match and the duo of Seronio and Tupas did not turn back by beating Palermo and Arnibal in the doubles match (3-0).
The Boy’s 17 under event was an all LOPTTA showdown between John Paul Gubaton and Edmund Garganian in the final match with the latter winning (3-2) while Jj Templado of GenSan and Cj Villanueva of Tacurong was 2nd runner-up.
In the Women’s open category, National team member Arlene Borja representing Makati City was the champion, beating Lagunday in the finals, while Rose Jean Fadol and Emy Rose Dael, both LOPTTA players, were third.
In the Boy’s 13 under, LOPTTA’s John Michael Castro, easily won the championship by defeating Mark Diazon of General Santos City in the semis (3-0) and disposed of Jj Templado of GenSan in the final (3-1).
The Girl’s 13 under, it was again an all LOPTTA final between Emy Rose Dael and Angela Borbon who won the championship (3-2). Phoebe Jumamoy of GenSan was third.
