The Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry,Inc. joined various organizations in helping those affected by typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan in Northern Mindanao recently.
The group, through cash donations from its members and member-organizations, collected P380,620, BFCCCII President Ben Ortega, said yesterday.
Part of the amount was used to buy 1,590 cases of purified drinking water and 500 pairs of slippers, Ortega said.
He said the BFCCCII sent 1,080 cases of purified water in a container van to Cagayan de Oro on December 27, through the Cagayan Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. because among the immediate needs of those affected by the floods is drinking water.
On Saturday, the BFCCCII sent 510 cases of purified drinking water, 20 cartons and 15 sacks of used clothing, 10 sacks of rice, and the slippers, in another container van, to Iligan, through the Uptown Rotary Club of Iligan, Ortega said.
Among the groups that sent in donations were the Negros Occidental Filipino-Chinese Foundation Inc., Negros Occidental Lioc Kui Fraternity Inc., Negros Tai Guan Temple Inc., and the Negros Occidental Uy Kang Ha Family Association Inc.
The Philippine Se Ho Family Association, Sincere Drug Store, Knights of Columbus-Queen of Peace Council No. 5822, and the Bacolod JCI Senate also donated for the cause, Ortega said.*PP
