Philippine Army troops in Negros Oriental observed the directive against indiscriminate firing of guns during the New Year’s Eve celebration.
So far, no reports have been received about soldiers firing their guns during the revelry Saturday to welcome the New Year.
Earlier, Col. Francisco Patrimonio, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade based in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, reminded the Philippine Army units to refrain from firing their issued weapons during the observance of the New Year.
The army troopers were also advised to be extra vigilant and continue active and passive measures to secure installations, patrol bases and detachments from the possible attacks by the New People’s Army, Maj. Conrado Evangelista said.
Meanwhile, Patrimonio also expressed his appreciation to the troops for a job well done in 2011 and encouraged them to show the same kind of dedication, professionalism and commitment in the year 2012.*JFP
