Stale rice recall ordered
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has ordered the immediate recall of 508 bags of stale rice distributed to job order employees of the city government during Christmas.

Sagarbarria said he instructed the GSO to strictly choose good quality of rice for the 508 job order employees.

He added that before it is released to recipients, the rice should be checked and tested to prevent further complaints from employees.

The bidding was held last week at the city hall for several rice suppliers in Dumaguete. The rice gift will be released to the job order employees this week.

Sagarbarria said he did not know about the stale rice until a complaint was brought to his attention. He said Joebon Marketing that was the supplier of the stale rice explained that it was the lowest quality of rice they could provide for the budget of only P1,500 per bag.

Earlier, the city government distributed 25 kilos of rice to 508 job order employees as their Christmas gift, but this was returned due to its low quality and was considered unfit for consumption.*MA
