Two killed, 8 injured

Two persons, one of them a minor, were killed in stabbing and vehicular accidents, while eight others sustained injuries, shortly before and after the New Year’s eve revelries, compared to nine deaths in the  previous year celebration, in Negros Occidental, police records showed.

Albert Dalmacio, 21, was declared dead on arrival at the Don Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial Hospital on Jan. 1, after he was stabbed allegedly by Benjamen Estoya in Sitio Aguntilang, Brgy. Riverside, Isabela.

Estoya, however, was arrested by an Isabela police team led by Inspector Jason Manguilimutan, in a pursuit operation.

Rey Alegre Jr., 7, died, when he was bumped by a motorcycle driven Ernesto Paglumotan, 45, at Sitio Buclao, Brgy. Tuyom, Cauayan, several hours before the New Year’s eve celebration, police records also showed.

Suspect Rolly Cabugnason eluded arrest, after allegedly hacking a certain Roque Bayati on Jan. 1 in Sitio Buhi-an, Brgy. Tinongan, Isabela.

Bayati, 29, sustained a hack wound in the head, and is now being treated also at the Don Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Memorial Hospital Sr. in Isabela.

Farm worker Art Maravilla suffered multiple injuries, after he was hacked allegedly by Armando, Jose Ojie and Norman, all surnamed Sabico, on Dec. 31 in Sitio Tuburan, Brgy. Tampalon, Kabankalan City.

The three suspects were endorsed to the Kabankalan police by Tampalon kagawad Lito Superficial and barangay tanods headed by Renon Sedayon. Maravilla is now confined at the Lorenzo Zayco Sr. District Hospital in Kabankalan City.

On the same day, brothers Elizalde and Edmund Espanola, and their cousin, Elizer Espanola also sustained injuries when they were shot allegedly by John Rey Melendrez and his brother, Rimo, in Brgy. Basak, Cauayan, police records also showed.

The two suspects, who were armed with a.38 caliber revolver and an airgun, immediately fled. The victims are now being treated at the Kabankalan District Hospital.

A certain Rogelio Leones, 53, was also stabbed, allegedly by Ralph Cardinal and his two brothers on Sunday in Brgy. 6, Victorias City.

Supt. Alexander Munoz, Victorias police chief, said Ralph was arrested by policemen who responded to the stabbing incident, but his two brothers managed to escape.*GPB
