Police arrested a suspected usher-collector of the illegal numbers game “swertres” in Barangay Calindagan in Dumaguete City at about 7:20 p.m. Monday.

Police identified the suspect as Edmundo Du, 51, married, of Barangay Calindagan.

Dumaguete police intelligence operatives and members of the Special Operations Group-Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Philippine National Police arrested Du allegedly while he was in the act of collecting bets.

Confiscated from Du were tally sheets, betting stubs, ballpen and cash money believed to be proceeds of the illegal numbers game.

Du said he had been working as an usher in Calindagan for about a year now, usually at the fisheries port in Canday-ong.

He, however, said he does not know who the financier is, but he turns over the proceeds to a certain Gerry Barrera, an alleged coordinator, at Cervantes Street, Dumaguete City.*JFP
