‘Only 5 firecrackers
victims in province’

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental recorded only five minor incidents involving firecracker explosions during the New Year.

This was confirmed by Supt Alet Virtucio, deputy provincial commander for operations, in his report to the regional police headquarters.

The incidents took place in Bais City where Daniel Cabual, 13, sustained a slight injury on his left thigh when an unlighted sparkler suddenly exploded. In Tanjay, Rowel Saycon, 36, and married, sustained a minor injury in her left thumb when a piccolo exploded before it was thrown.

In Dumaguete City, an unexploded firecracker hanged at the gate of a residence in Looc suddenly exploded while being ignited by the victim, Jonathan Ausletia, 19, single, who sustained an injury in his left ear.

In Bayawan City, a pedestrian, John Go Ong, 32, married, accidentally stepped on an ignited firecracker that caused an injury to his left toe, while in Pamplona, Jerwil Pilongo, 13, was brought to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital for injuries sustained when an unexploded firecracker that he picked up went off.

Virtucio said he was happy to report a zero casualty record involving firecrackers in Negros Oriental this New Year.*JG
