The suspected gunman in the New Year’s eve shooting incident in Basay town, Negros Oriental, was subdued by the police while he was about to leave the town on board a passenger bus bound for Dumaguete City.
The suspect, Rio Siason, was on a Ceres bus in Sitio Cotcot, Bongalonan, Basay when he was caught by pursuing policemen, some of whom were already on board the bus.
Siason allegedly shot dead a crew member of a fishing boat in Basay identified as Arque Ejara, 36, married, of Purok 6 in Basay, while under the influence of alcoholic liquor.
Investigations showed that Siason got mad when Ejara left the group without telling them at the height of their drinking session.
Ejara sustained eight gunshot wounds from a .45 caliber pistol, based on the empty shells recovered at the crime scene. Confiscated from Siason was the gun he allegedly used in the shooting.
Meanwhile, property worth P600,000 was razed to the ground on New Year’s day in Mabinay.
The house owned by Wilfredo Askin, 71, of Barangay Lumbangan was burned in a fire cause by electrical overload, initial findings of the municipal fire department showed. The house was being rented by Madelyn Narciso, 22.*JG
