Material recovery facilities set

The completion of the Material Recovery Facility in Barangay Felisa, Bacolod City, is expected to be finished by the end of the first quarter of 2012, Association of Barangay Captains president and Councilor Mona Dia Jardin said in a press release.

The facility is estimated to cost P1 million and will be located near the barangay's sanitary landfill to ensure that wastes that are no longer needed are segregated and are prevented from posing any danger to life, a press release from City Hall said.

Jardin said the facility produces from 150 to 200 tons of wastes daily, citing in this relation to the different barangays' clean and green program under the Task Force Clean and Green, jointly spearheaded by Councilors Em Ang, Sonya Verdeflor and herself.

Jardin noted the strong cooperation of the city's barangay captains, and that there are now regular Liga meetings held, barangay secretaries' meetings and continued education with the barangay treasurers, aside from seminars conducted for barangays officials, the press release said.*
