La Castellana, Kabankalan teams
eye q’final slot in Negros bootfest

With four wins in the bag, Sagay City Football Club hopes to improve its record against Kabankalan City FC (1-4-1), while La Carlota City FC (3-2-1) aims for its fourth victory against Minulu-an Talisay (2-2-2), as the scramble for the remaining slots in the quarterfinals of the 1st Negros Open Football Tournament ends this Saturday at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.

Tournament commissioner Warren Concepcion said the quarterfinals will start on January 14 with the top 4 teams in both Group A and Group B, vying for a berth in the semifinals set on January 21.

Saturday’s games will the last final schedule in the elimination round with winless La Castellana (0-6-0) going up against Don Bosco at 7:30 am in Group B followed by the match-up between Sagay and Kabankalan.

La Carlota will face Minulu-an-Talisay at 1:30 p.m. in Group B, with Las Buenas FC (1-4-1) confronting winless Magallon United FC (0-6-0) at 3:30 p.m. in Group A.

Leading the cast of early qualifier in the quarterfinals is Bacolod United with a 6-0-1 win-loss-draw card, while Ceres Liner stays unbeaten in Group B with a 7 wins.

Bacolod United strengthen its bid for the inaugural crown of the tournament with a 5-3 win against San Carlos City in Group A, while Bago stabilized its position in the team standings by dominating Pontevedra, 6-1, also in Group A.

Organized by the provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., the tournament hopes to tap more football talents from the grassroots as part of its sports development program.*NAB
