DOLE to prioritize
pro youth schemes

The Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas will gear its programs and projects this year towards providing employment and productivity to out of school youths, voluntary compliance of labor standards, and retraining of OSY’s for self-employment like farming opportunities.

Crispin Dannug, OIC-DOLE regional director yesterday said they will hold the DOLE council action planning on their programs for 2012 today in Iloilo City.

He said they want to tap the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and other implementing agencies for the retraining of out-of-school youth to become self employed and wage earners.

The out of school youth have to be trained and learn some skills so that they can earn for themselves and help their families, Dannug said.

They can also use their skills when they decide to continue schooling since training with TESDA will provide them with what they need for their chosen career, he added.

Dannug said they also want to help those who are interested to work in the farms get practical training and help them start their own livelihood, and grow organic products.

He also said the DOLE will assist the Wages and Productivity Board VI in its programs and thrust and discuss the differences between workers and employers associations.*LTG
