Army, OPAPP set
up dev’t community

BY RENE GENOVE

The Army’s 302 Brigade participated in the setting up of Peace and Development Community  recently at Sitio Escaguit, Barangay Enrique Villanueva in Sibulan town, Negros Oriental.

A press release from  Capt. Anacito Naz, of the brigade said the army linked up with Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, in support of  the government  program on socio-economic development assistance to the members of Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Bongcayao Brigade  Tabano-Paduano Group.

The establishment of the PDC is  an important step in attaining a successful closure to the peace process with the RPM-P/RPA/ABB,  Naz said.

The Philippine Army joined the OPAPP team  and some local officials in  an ocular inspection of the area.

The activity was  aimed at determining the location of the PDC  and to   gather information or data  for the  profiling of the socio-economic, political and security aspects of the proposed PDC.

Naz  said, “Aside from being a major component in the closure of the peace agreement, the PDC also aims to contribute to lasting peace by reducing poverty and vulnerability through community infrastructure and focused delivery of social services.”

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines awarded Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network recently for its contribution to the success of counterinsurgency project “Bayanihan”.

ONCAN president, Baby Jambora, received the plaque  together with the 20  awardees during the AFP Bayanihan Awards Night at the Armed Forces Commissioned Officers Club at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Also honored were Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or. 1st District)  and Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto.

Jambora said the AFP has a long list of organizations and individuals as partners in its quest to win the peace for the Filipino people. She added that  AFP chief Lt. Gen. Jessie Dellosa thanked all its partners for its contribution but had to pick only 20.

The AFP recognized ONCAN and Rep. Limkaichong for their  support to the AFP in the implementation of the IPSP Bayanihan in the province of Negros Oriental.

Dellosa said it helped address the problem of poverty and inadequate services, a unifying act that effectively address the basic and core issues as envisioned in the “whole of nation” approached espoused by IPSP Bayanihan.

The nominees were recommended by the AFP major services, unified commands and wide service support and separate units. The shortlist of nominees was subjected to a screening process before the awardees are chosen.*RG
