Turtle freed in Silay

A hawksbill sea turtle was released  into the sea in  Balaring, Silay City, at 2 p.m. yesterday  after it was found by a certain Roger at Purok Golf, Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City, Saturday evening, a Silay City press release said.

Assistant City Agriculturist Jason Benedicto said the endangered sea turtle weighed at 100 kilograms, wasin good condition and not wounded.

“It is not the first time that the city has rescued an endangered sea turtle because the territorial sea of Silay has ample  sea grasses,” Benedicto said.

“The existence of the sea grasses in the territorial sea of Silay is one of the determinants that the sea didn’t undergo overfishing and is not over polluted that’s why most of the endangered sea turtles visit the territorial sea of Silay City,” Benedicto added.

Silay Mayor Jose Montelibano, Silay Bantay Dagat and the Office of the Silay City Agriculturist are working together in protecting the territorial seas of Silay City, the press release said.*

Moreover, Benedicto added that the Office of the City Agriculturist and the Bantay Dagat is campaigning to stop the illegal fishing in Silay City.*
