Governor turns over
P22.4M Serge fund

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday turned over a P22.4 million check from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Senator Sergio Osmeña III to the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation for the construction of 64 classrooms in the 32 towns and cities in Negros Occidental.

Osmeña said he appointed the NVC to oversee the construction of the classrooms after he saw its involvement in the construction of pre-school classrooms for AGAPP (Gabay Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa) Foundation headed by Pinky Aquino Abellada, sister of President Benigno Aquino.

NVC has partnered with AGAPP for the constructions of 12 classrooms in Negros Occidental so far.

The Osmeña PDAF allocation turned over by Marañon to NVC president Millie Kilayko yesterday was earlier transferred to the provincial government of Negros Occidental through the governor for accountability and monitoring purposes.

Public private partnership is important to get this country to move forward, Osmeña said.

The NVC Foundation is in charge of the coordination with the local government units and the Department of Education and the community for the identification of sites and overseeing the construction of classrooms, dubbed as the “Mga Daang Matuwid Silid-Aralan”.

NVC will continue to monitor the use of the donated classrooms and facilitate linkages for additional inputs as well as training for teachers, Kilayko said.
