LTO collection 15.92% lower

The Land Transportation in Bacolod City has recorded P5,219,692 in revenue collections last year through its law enforcement division with 16,538 apprehensions, which is still 15.92 percent lower that its 2010 collection.

LTO records show that in 2010, it collected P6,208,120 from 16,568 apprehensions but Norman Saril, LTO chief said their operation slowed down last year because they were affected by the economic instability of the country.

Joseph Danoy, Sr. of the law enforcement department, also said topping the list of violations committed by motorists last year is the non-wearing of seatbelts with 3,434 apprehensions.

The violation of defective stoplights followed, with 1,005 apprehensions, failure to carry official receipts and certificate of registrations with 999 apprehensions, driving vehicles without plates with 915 apprehensions, and obstruction with 792 apprehensions, Danoy said.

Seatbelt violation fines are P327.63 for the first offense, P577.63 for the second offense, and P1,077.63 and seven days suspension for the third offense, he said.

Defective stoplight is fined P377.63; P227.63 for failure to carry OR/CR, P277.63 for vehicles with no plates, and P477.63 for obstruction, Danoy added.

Saril, meanwhile, said that drivers might be affected if the government resorts to gas rationing if the supply of oil continues to depreciate.

He said that in the 1970s, the Philippines implemented gas rationing where it issued coupons to drivers and gasoline stations cannot refuel vehicles without the coupon.

Saril, however, said that gas rationing was possible before because there were only 20,000 vehicles in Bacolod city, but with 80,000 registered now, it would be a problem.*LTG
