Kagawad injured in fire
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A Kagawad sustained burns while trying to save the goods from the burning store of his wife in Purok Seaside in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City at about 1 p.m. yesterday.

City fire marshal Chief Insp. Pamela Rojane Candido identified the victim as Kagawad Jose Montaño.

Montaño told the DAILY STAR that he was home when he was informed that the store of his wife, Amelia, and two other residences were on fire so he rushed there to help put out the fire and save their goods.

He said his neighbors scooped water from the ocean which is near his house to help put out the fire.

Investigation conducted by Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva showed that a 5-year-old boy played with matches and this set on fire the house rented by Carlos Mendiola, Neneng Alcobar and the store of Montaño’s wife.

Montaño’s grandson, whose name is being withheld, said he saw his playmate playing with the matches and minutes later saw the fire.

The fire was put out at about 2:28 p.m. and left P50,000 in damage to property

Meanwhile, fire believed caused by an electrical short circuit also gutted the generator set located at the roof deck of Robinson’s Cyber gate in Brgy. Singcang Airport, Bacolod City at about 11 a.m. yesterday.

Candido said the fire originated from the static relay of the generator set.

No one were reported injured in the fire, but it caused P300,000 in damage to property.*APN
