Suspected drug pusher arrested

The anti-illegal drugs campaign in Negros Oriental scored again Monday with the arrest of a suspected drug pusher in Sta. Catalina town.

Police reports identified the suspect as Christopher Hernan, 27, single, a resident of Barangay San Francisco in Sta. Catalina.

A joint team from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Sta. Catalina police station, the Negros Oriental Philippine National Police-Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Hernan after a buy-bust operation.

Younger brother killed by sibling

A man hacked his younger brother to death Monday night in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

Police reports said Reynan dela Cruz Sedillo, of Sitio Tapulaw of Barangay Sto. Rosario, who was allegedly intoxicated, had gone to the house of his elder brother, Joseph, for “karate lessons,” but was told to go home and sleep.

An argument ensued between the brothers, after which Reynan went home. However, he returned minutes later with a bladed weapon, or “lading”, and started hacking at the wall of his brother’s house and was destroying it, the police report said.

DAR Neg.Or. hits 2011 target

The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros exceeded its target by about 100.07 percent on land tenure improvement, last year.

DAR VII regional director Rodolfo Inson, made the statement during the turn-over ceremony of Provincial Agrarian Reform Officers recently at Plaza Maria Luisa Suites Inn, in Dumaguete City.

The LTI component aims at securing the tenurial status of farmers and farmworkers in the land they till. This is operationalized through land acquisition and distribution or Leasehold Operations, the DAR said.*RG
