ALU-TUCP not
allowed at bus firm

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Officers of the Associated Labor Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines in Cebu were sent out of the terminal compound of a big transport company in Negros Island, when the management discovered that they were convincing employees to unionize with them and using private property without permission.

The group, headed by Jose Albeso and Danilo Ipil, discreetly entered the Vallacar Transit Inc. terminal in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City and were accosted by security personnel on orders of the manager, Juvy Granada, who refused to be interviewed.

Albeso came to avail of the socalled “freedom period,” provided under the Labor Code.

ALU-TUCP district officer Felizardo Calimpong said the existing CBA of Ceres bus employees will expire on February 23, 2012. Under the freedom period, two months before the expiration of a CBA, any Labor Union may enter and may file a petition for certification election.

The Cebu ALU-TUCP officers were apologetic for their actions, but Calimpong said they had not violated anything in trying to explain to the divers, conductors and other employees their rights and other benefits that they need to know and avail of.

The present employees union is under the Philippine Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial Workers Union.*JG
