70 percent of water
system restored

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

At least 70 percent of the water system in Valencia, Negros Oriental. has been restored this week after Tropical Storm Sendong ravaged the area on Dec. 17 last year.

Valencia Mayor Ricky Gonzalez, meanwhile said he has asked the Sangguniang Bayan to suspend collection of water bills in December and January.

This will allow residents whose water connections have been restored to share the water with their neighbors or other people who still do not have access to it, he said.

In the past weeks, the local government of Valencia had to bring in water via tanker trucks of the town’s fire department, the Bayawan City local government, and private volunteer groups.

Tanker trucks will continue delivering water to Valencia until water district has obtained a 100 percent repair and rehabilitation of its water system, he said.

Valencia town has been tagged as the hardest hit by “Sendong” in Negros Oriental.*JFP
