Huminova, Basecom
win Fil-Sino crown

Huminova Tigers and Basecom  lived to its top billing by disposing separate opponents in similar fashion to win the championship in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 3rd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gymnasium.

The Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter anchored on their fastbreak game to hold off AACI Farms, 98-88, to capture the Class A title.

Tigers Yan Yan Dy and Buddy Eufre poured in 15 and 9 points,   respectively, in the opening quarter to give the Tigers a 28-17 lead.

Farms trio of Dr. Emil Guanzon, Vincent Tan and Ritchie Militante combined for 26 points to push Farms ahead at the break, 50-49, even as RB Chua shot 9 points and Jose Miguel Montinola had 6 points for Huminova.

In the third quarter, Joseph Tiu and Joel Masadia delivered 6 points apiece to establish a 5-point lead for the Tigers, but Johnnyson Yu  broke down the defense of the Tigers with his daredevil drives to grab the lead anew for Farms, 73-71, going to the fourth quarter.

Farms’ center Ritchie Militante scored 7 inside points, but did not get the needed support  especially from their outside gunners while the Tigers relied on their quickness to score several fast break layups to seal the championship in Class A.

Dy topscored with 27 points, RB Chua added 18, Eufre shot 15,  and Masadia  had 10 points.

Miilitante scored  18 points in a losing effort backstopped by Yu 16, Charlton Ong 12, Dr. Guanzon 14 points, and Pao Pao Lim 8 points.

Meanwhile, Basecom defeated Organic Solutions, 74-64, to emerge as victors in Class B finals.

Basecom took the firsth quarter, 20-7, behind Clarence Quingco’s 8 points.

Ton Ton Chua was unstoppable in the second quarter as he delivered 14 points for Organic Solutions to cut the deficit, 34-28, at the break.

Organic continued with its second quarter momentum to draw closer at 49-48 led by Celhelm Uy’s 9 points, Ton Ton Chua and Arvin Chua combined for 11 points,  while Basecom scored 12 of their  15 quarter points from the three-point arc.

Ton Ton Chua continued to sizzle in the payoff quarter with 12 points, but Basecom kept Organic at bay behind a  with a balanced effort led by  Keith Banzon’s 3 triples and Jeremy Coo’s  5 points. 

Banzon finished with 18 points,, Quingco shot  15, Coo contributed 11, Jan Jan Young  with 10, Chipeng Uy and Edward Uy had 6 points each.

Basecom spoiled the 32-point outstanding effort from Ton Ton Chua, followed by Celhelm Uy with 9, Arvin Chua 8 , Wilson Dy 6, and Alex Chua 5 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
