NegOr ranks 3rd in region
with highest crime volume

Negros Oriental ranked third in Central Visayas with the highest crime volume in 2011, a report from the Philippine National Police Regional Office 7 showed.

Sr. Supt. Mariano Natuel, PRO-7’s Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) said, during a forum held at the PRO-7 Media Center last week that the Cebu City Police Office posted the highest crime figures with 7,774, followed by the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) with 6,767 and the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office with 3,393.

Natuel also further said that in 2011, the crime volume in Region 7 posted a 27 percent drop, with a total of 24,859 compared to 34,049 in 2010.

The Bohol Provincial Police Office was in fourth with 2,743 crime incidents, followed by Lapu-Lapu City Police Office with 2,382 at fifth place, and Mandaue City Police Office with 1,632 at sixth place for the period.

Siquijor was tagged the “most peaceful province in the region”, with only 168 crimes recorded in 2011.

The PNP’s score card, includes highly-urbanized cities in the four provinces of the region based on the rating procedures.

The PRO-7 briefing also showed that in Central Visayas, an average of 68 crimes per day were recorded last year against 93 per day in 2010.*JFP
