PVO creating new unit
for economic enterprise

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental will create an economic enterprise unit that will supervise the marketing, sales, and pricing of all livestock and poultry animals, particularly in sheep production, Dr. Renante Decena said yesterday.

Decena said the economic enterprise unit will manage all transactions and income-generating projects and improve the potentials in the local market of local products.

The selling and marketing of livestock and poultry animals have to be handled by the enterprise unit to make sure that all sales and revenues will be channeled back to the government since it involves government funds, he added.

With the arrival of sheep purchased from Australia, they recently trained 36 sheep raisers and prospective buyers on sheep management, he said, adding that they must undergo the training with the PVO before they can purchase the animals, Decena said.

The training includes pasture development, nutrition, management, breeding techniques, castration, restraining, and hoof trimming at the Negros First Ranch in Sta. Rosa, Murcia, he said.

Meanwhile, PinoyMe Foundation, President Danilo Songco expressed interest in purchasing sheep from the province for livelihood project of the beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, Decena said.

He added that Songco said sheep-raising can be one of the sources of livelihood for farmers during the off-milling season or lean months.

Decena also encourage all buyers to make reservations if they are interested to buy sheep. They can call Azeneth Dimaandal of the PVO at 434-5924, adding that they prioritize those who have made reservations. *LTG
