Dengue cases in Cebu
down  by 50 percent

CEBU CITY – Dengue cases in Cebu City have  gone down  by more than half as of Jan. 11, 2012 compared to the same period last year.

The Cebu City Epidemiology Surveillance and Statistics Unit  of the Cebu City Health Department  recorded 20 cases only from January 1 to 11 this year compared to 41  last year.

CESSU records  showed that  the cases were spread in  at least 15 barangays in the city with Tisa and Pasil having two cases each.

Cebu City Epidemiologist Durenda Macasucol said there was no reported fatality so far this month compared to two deaths in January last year.

But one of the victims   Mikel Rama, son of Mayor Michael Rama, who has been confined in a private hospital since Tuesday.

The mayor said Mikel has not reached a point where blood transfusion is needed but the family is preparing for it. He said  Mikel has no idea where he got the virus since he had been around the past weeks.*PNA
