4 police officers get awards

Four police officers who had participated in the arrest of two alleged members of a notorious robbery-hold-up group and in the  confiscation of several high-powered firearms and explosives in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, were awarded yesterday   by the Pollice Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City.

Conferred  with Medalya ng Kasanayan (PNP Efficiency Medal)  were Supt. Antonietto Caniete, Himamaylan police chief, Senior Inspector Hercules Trigue, Police Officer 3 Leonel Verzosa, and P02 Joelan Vinson of the Himamaylan City Police Station.

Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director,  led the awarding at the traditional flag raising ceremony  at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.

Caniete and the three   awardees assigned in Negros Occidental were among the policemen who arrested  the robbery-hold-up suspects identified as Rene Alvarez, and Raymond Ta-ala, in Brgy. Enclaro, Binalbagan in December 5 last year,  that  also led to the recovery of an Ingram machine pistol with a magazine containing 14 rounds of ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, a bladed weapon, a .45 caliber pistol with two magazines containing 10 rounds of bullet,  and a 357 magnum revolver.

Police records showed that Ta-ala and Alvarez are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, frustrated murder, assault upon an agent of person in authority, ilIegal possession of firearms and prohibited drugs.

 Alvarez, one of the 10 most-wanted persons in Himamaylan City, has pending arrest warrants for the crimes of attempted murder and direct assault upon an agent of person in authority, issued by Himamaylan City Judges  Nilo Sarsaba and Cyclamen Fernandez-Gayatao, who recommended bails of P120,000 and P12,000, respectively, for them.

Seven other policemen assigned at the Iloilo City Police Office also received the Medalya ng Kagalingan from the PRO6.*GPB
