BIR posts P5.2M
in 2011 tax collection

The Bureau of Internal Revenue, Revenue Region 12, in Bacolod City has recorded P5,258,409,627.15 for 2011 tax collection, which is 2.70 percent higher than its collection goal, BIR regional director Perfecto Aranas said yesterday.

The increase of P138,350,627.15 is the result of heightened tax campaigns, tax seminars, and dialogs with the tax payers on their responsibilities and obligations, Aranas said.

The BIR also encourages taxpayers to voluntarily declare their taxable income, he added.

DOLE records ‘drastic’ decline
in 13th month pay complaints

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said yesterday in a press release that efforts of the DOLE to encourage companies to voluntarily comply with core labor standards, have started to pay off as complaints received by the DOLE Call Center against companies not paying the 13th month pay had drastically declined in 2011.

The DOLE measures include its “no compromise" policy in the 13th month pay compliance, the press release said. From 564 complaints in 2010, the first year of the current administration, received only 55 complaints in 2011, a reduction of 90.6 percent, Baldoz said, noting that the complaints came from workers in the National Capital Region.
