Disaster mgm’t summit
set in Bacolod: Pimentel

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III committed to Mayor Evelio Leonardia the holding of a Disaster Risk Reduction Management Summit for Western Visayas in Bacolod City to enhance the disaster response capability of Region 6, a City Hall press release said.

Pimentel made his commitment when Leonardia paid a courtesy call at his senate office yesterday. Bacolod City will co-sponsor the project, Leonardia said.

Both of them agreed that there is an urgent need for the Summit in the light of what happened to the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete when they were ravaged by Typhoon Sendong.

Many lives and properties were lost, not only during, but even after the typhoon struck, apparently due to lack of adequate disaster preparedness and response.

Leonardia also took the opportunity to thank Pimentel for facilitating the improvement of Lacson Street in Bacolod City.

Later, Leonardia attended the second day of the historic impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renator Corona.*
