Cops file
charges vs. bizman

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The police yesterday filed charges for illegal possession of firearms and prohibited drugs before the Himamaylan City Prosecutor’s Office against a businessman who was arrested, after a car chase with lawmen Sunday.

Supt. Antonietto Canete, Himamaylan police chief, yesterday said the businessman, identified as Jose Zulueta, is still detained at the police lock-up cell, while his counsel prepares a motion to secure bail for him.

The arrest of Zulueta, who claimed to be a certain “Col. Martinez,” at a police checkpoint in Brgy. Suay, Himamaylan City, yielded two M-16 Armalite rifles with similar serial numbers, a super .38 Hi-Cap caliber pistol, a 45 caliber Colt. pistol, seven long magazines of an armalite rifle containing 210 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines of super .38 and .45 caliber pistols with 86 live bullets, and three sachets of shabu.

The firearms and their ammunition, as well shabu, were recovered by the Himamaylan police from the Toyota Fortuner pick-up vehicle driven by Zulueta, who was trailed by the Kabankalan police, before intercepting him in Himamaylan City.

Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, provincial police director, said they are still checking the background of Zulueta to see if he is engaged in illegal activities.*GPB
