The Philippine National Police Special Operations Group arrested Wednesday a suspected gambling coordinator and his alleged assistant during a raid in Bais City, Negros Oriental.

Initial police reports identified the suspected coordinator as Cleope Caro, from Canday-ong in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, and his alleged assistant, a 17-year-old from Tinago, in Dumaguete, in a raid at the suspect's residence at Tavera Street in Bais City.

The police caught Caro and the minor in the act allegedly of receiving and tallying bets for the illegal numbers game, “swertres”.

Recovered were tally sheets, betting stubs, P7,290 in alleged bet money, calculators, ball point pens, bundles of stubs with number combinations written on them, staplers, and a mobile phone.

Caro identified their alleged financier as Pom Bana.

The two are now detained while the filing of formal charges are being readied against them.* JFP
