Opportunities for collaboration are seen after a $50,000 grant was discussed by The Pacific World Mission Presbyterian Church USA, headed by its coordinator for Asia and the Pacific, Rev. Meinda Uriarte, recently with Silliman University president Dr. Ben Malayang, a press release from SU in Dumaguete City said.
The partnership is more than a century old, as Silliman was founded on August 28, 1901 by Presbyterian missionaries.
Present were Bruce Reyes-Chow, founding pastor of the Mission Bay Community Church, San Francisco, and Nancy Eng Macneil, of the Peace and Justice Ministry of the Presbyterian Church Peacemaking Program, vice president for Academic Affairs Dr. Betsy Joy Tan; vice president for Finance and Administration Prof. Cleonico Fontelo; Institutional Advancement officer Jojo Antonio and Silliman Water project member Cobbie Palm, the press release added.
Meanwhile, Malayang shared with members of the University Student Government and governors of the college-based student councils, the concerns of the university.
Also highlighted was Silliman's focus on its programs and services, especially the extent to which they are able to help achieve the individual goals of students.
An open discussion on student concerns followed, with SUSG president Mahogany Ray Bacon heading the student leaders, the press release added.*
