Pregnant woman hit by
truck, hospitalized

A pregnant woman was hit by a cargo truck as she was alighting from a passenger jeepney in Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City, at about 1 p.m. Thursday and is now hospitalized.

Police identified the victim as Jevah Cantiller, 26, of Fortune Towne Subdivision in Brgy. Estefania.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Joey Mira showed that Cantiller was alighting from the jeepney of Elenoel Pardillo, 33, of Purok Pag-asa, Brgy. Estefania at the junction of Burgos Extension and Bangga Felicidad, when the cargo truck of Louiel Siason, 33, of Victorias, hit her.

Cantiller sustained injuries in her body when she fell to the pavement and was rushed to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital.

SPO1 Dennis Perma, chief investigator of the Bacolod City Police Traffic Management Unit, said Cantiller’s injuries are not serious, and she is already in stable condition.

Perma, however, said that Cantiller is determined to file charges against Siason.

Mira also reported that Felix Jover, 59, of Reagent Pearl Homes Subdivision in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod was also injured when his motorcycle collided with a car at the junction of Lacson and Burgos streets in Bacolod City, at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He said Jover was on his motorcycle and was heading south of Lacson Street when his vehicle collided with the Nissan Sentra of Rodrigo Regoneo, 53, of Purok Marapara in Brgy. Bata, which, at that time, was heading west of Burgos Street.

Jover sustained injuries and was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.*APN

Ex-cop denies rape raps

The former policeman arrested for two counts of statutory rape denied the accusations yesterday and said they were fabricated.

Former patrolman Armando Collado, who was presented to Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, yesterday claimed that the charges were filed against him because he was one of the complainants in a plunder case filed against a politician in Bacolod in 1998.

Collado maintained that he did not rape his 10-year-old neighbor, whose name the police withheld and he was surprised to learn of the charges.

Collado was charged for abduction by the parents of his his 19-year-old former girlfriend, and another child abuse case filed by the parents of another minor, but those were dismissed.

De la Paz said that Collado has already been presented to Regional Trial Court Branch 53 Judge Anita Chua, who issued the arrest warrant. De la Paz also said that Collado has been brought to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Annex in Brgy. Handumanan.

Collado was apprehended by police at about 1 p.m. in Brgy. Vito, Sagay City, Negros Occidental where he attended the funeral of his wife.

He was assigned at the Escalante City Police Office before he was dismissed from the service in 2004, for grave abuse.*APN

Car burglar arrested

An alleged notorious car burglar was caught by the owner of the vehicle he was trying to force open at about 6:20 p.m. Thursday, at B.S. Aquino Drive in Bacolod City.

Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Lester Leada, identified the suspect as Romnic Dueñas, 19, of Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Complainant Martin Philippe Doblar, 27, of Hillside Subdivision in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod, and employed as an account executive of C and E Publishing Inc., told the police that he saw Dueñas opening his car that was parked near their office and stealing his laptop computer valued at P28,000.

Dueñas tried to flee but Doblar caught up with him and brought him to Police Station 2. He, however, denied the accusations against him and claimed that he is in Bacolod to deliver vegetables.

City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said, Dueñas was also identified by a witness as the same person who forced open a car parked in front of the Philippine National Bank building several weeks ago.

De la Paz lauded Police Station 2 for the arrest of Dueñas saying that if Dueñas was not arrested, he could have burglarized more vehicles in Bacolod City.

He appealed to other witnesses to come out and identify Dueñas so that more charges can be filed against him.*APN
