Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra encouraged Bacoleños and Negrenses to live and follow the life of St. Sebastian, of living life justly, in loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.
At the patronal mass yesterday honoring the Feast of San Sebastian de Bacolod, patron saint of the city, and of the Diocese of Bacolod, Navarra reminded the people how to live the Christian faith.
In his homily, he also reiterated the stand of the diocese against the passage of the Reproductive Health Bill, and on the impeachment trial ofSupreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, and asked the people not to compromise their faith.
He also reminded them not to be misguided and misled by modern traits citing bridal gowns that have lost their modesty.
Those who wear them seem to lose their shame when receiving the holy matrimony of marriage, Navarra said.
Navarra also said that, like St. Sebastian, people have to live truthfully and have a true Christian conscience, able to distinguish good from bad.
He said people must also let go of selfishness and greed, and instead share selfless love. Following God’s guide will lead people to the right path, he added.
A procession in honor of San Sebastian followed in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Fr.Felix Pasquin, rector of the San Sebastian Cathedral, said the reflection during the feast was done in anticipation of the solemn declaration by Pope Benedict the XVI of Oct. 11, 2012 to Nov. 24, 2013 as the year of faith. *LTG back
