fully operational, PVO says

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena yesterday said the 11 satellite animal production and breeding centers from 11 local government units in Negros Occidental are fully operational with 1,400 existing farm animals.

The 11 LGUs are San Carlos City, Kabankalan Cityu Pontevedra, Moises Padilla, La Castellana, La Carlota City, Cadiz City, Calatrava, Escalante City, San Enrique, and Sipalay City.

Decena said that with the arrival of sheep from Australia, more LGUs will establish satellite breeding centers that will increase the number of farm animals dispersed and produced.

Last year, the 11 satellite centers have dispersed a total of 749 farm animals like goat, carabao, swine, poultry, he said.

The Provincial Livestock Breeding Center and Dairy Farm in La Granja, La Carlota has existing 65 heads of dairy cattle, 29 heads of boer goats, and 685 heads for poultry animals.

Decena also said that PLBCDF has produced 28,652 liters of milk, 937.30 liters of which was processed, 15,934.45 liters were fed to calves, 11,811.25 liters were processed at the Negros Federation of Dairy Cooperative, 3,250 liters were packed, and 2,130 liters were distributed to beneficiaries while egg production reached 57, 169.

He also encouraged all LGUs and private raisers to engage with the PVO for animal breeding and management.

PVO has also provided animal management and raising techniques to beneficiaries of the animal dispersal project, buyers, livestock inspectors and, paraveterinarians to keep them updated on the technologies of animal raising, Decena added. *LTG
