Dads: We will not override
governor’s veto message

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Negros Oriental provincial board members have agreed not to override the veto of Governor Roel Degamo after a move to slash the intelligence fund for 2012 by 50 percent.

The province has allocated P 10 million budget for the intelligence fund of the Office of the Governor.

Board Member Erwin Michael Macias, said the move to slash the Intelligence fund by P5 million is intended to allocate additional budget for the purchase of medicines for the six Community Primary Hospitals in Negros Oriental.

Macias said he was not present when the provincial board discussed the veto message of the governor, but added that he respects the decision of the members of the board, if they believe it was for the benefit of the greater majority.

CHED taps SU for
research network

The Commission on Higher Education has identified Silliman University in Dumaguete City among the academic institutions to make up a national research network and receive an annual allocation of P10 million for a three-year period, a press release from SU said.

Chairperson Dr. Patricia Licuanan of the CHED informed Silliman president Dr. Ben Malayang III of the university’s inclusion in the Philippine Higher Education Research Network.

Licuanan said the institution were identified on the basis of capacity for and track record in intellectual property generation, and PHERNet centers are expected to conduct high quality research that would maintain and enhance the country's international standing in areas of national priority.
