Toga new NPC president,
2 from STAR officers, too

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Negros Daily Bulletin editor-columnist Arman Toga was elected president of the Negros Press Club, the oldest press club in the Philippines, Saturday in Bacolod City.

Toga, who was elected number one director last year and later appointed club treasurer, succeeds Elmer Ubaldo of DYEZ Aksyon Radyo, on March 1.

Out of 81 votes cast, Toga garnered 70 votes, while his challenger, Aladin Salas of DYRL Abyan Radyo garnered five.

Edgar Lucasan, program director of DYRL, was elected vice president with 42 votes over incumbent NPC vice president Jose Lizael “Nonoy” Lampinez of the Vanguard News, who got 31 votes.

Aquilino “Boy” Ciocon of DYRL was elected treasurer with 51 votes over his challenger Raquel Gariando of DYRL who got 14.

Clarence Locsin of Bombo Radyo and Chrysee Samillano of DAILY STAR were unopposed for secretary and auditor, respectively.

The winning members of the board were Henceboy Cestina of DYKB Radyo Ronda with 56 votes, Ranie Azue of Panay News with 50, Adrian Nemes III of DAILY STAR with 46, Merlinda Pedrosa of Sunstar Bacolod with 40, and Sunstar Bacolod editor-in-chief Butch Bacaoco with 39 votes.

Elected members of the Membership Committee were NPC past presidents Amado Villacarlos, Elsie Jolingan, Dolly Yasa, Eddie dela Fuente and Modesto Sa-onoy.

The members of the board of canvassers were Rolando Espina, Rex Remitio, Sa-onoy, Dela Fuente and Edmund Aspero.

Toga said he is grateful to the majority of the members who gave him their trust and confidence to lead the club for a year.

“I am confident that with the new set of officers we will be able to promote stronger unity among members as we respect each other’s biases and views on certain issues and concerns,” he said.

“Let us help the club and the individual members in whatever we can so we can advance the interest of the public for the common good,” Toga said.

Toga, who was also elected Trustee for the Visayas of the Philippine Press Institute a few years ago, promised to institute more reforms to improve the club, like adopting the correct accounting system, inventory of all assets of the club, and promote more transparency as far as funds are concerned.

He said he will establish partnerships with the private sector for his projects for the club as well as for the public.

Toga, was also news stringer of the Philippine News Agency, said he will prioritize undertakings that can help individual club members, not only in the field of trainings and advancement, but also economically.*CGS
