Gubaton secures two titles
in BacoLaodiat table tennis

John Paul Gubaton won twice against Francis Garganian in separate encounters to emerge with two championship titles in the BacoLaodiat Table Tennis Open Tournament at the LOPTTA Event Center in Bacolod City.

Gubaton prevailed against Garganian after five sets, 10-12, 11-4, 11-7, 11-6, and 11-6, in boys’ 17Under, then repeat the performance in men’s open after six sets, 11-7, 11-9, 12-10, 13-15, 10-12 and 11-3.

Second runner-up honors in boys 17Under was went to Edmund Garganian and Rhomar Dasilao, while Paul Jigo Grecia and Marc Angelou Peñaranda shared the award in men’s open.

In girls’ 12Under, Ann Gella Borbon prevailed over Mariella Mabaquiao in four sets, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, and 11-8, to take home the top prize, while Emy Rose Dael also needed six sets to tame Rose Jean Fadol in girls’ 17Under.

Fadol avenged her loss against Dael in women’s open by beating Beverly Paulma in the finals, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, and 11-9; as Dael slipped to second runner-up with Cherry Tiongco.

In the battle for the championship in boys’ 12Under, John Michael Castro had a convincing victory over EJ Locsin, while Daniel Uy and Jeff Pulohanan finished second runner-up.

Winners in the side event were Ruff Ayco, Pastor Ian Alvarez, and Judge Abraham Bayona and Edwin Timtiman.

The tournament drew the participation of 120 players from different areas in Negros Occidental. Tournament manager was Michael Yanos.*NAB
