Head-tails game
referee shot dead

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

A man who was acting as referee in an illegal game, “hantak”, the local version of heads-and-tails, was shot dead recently during a barangay fiesta in Tambulan, Tayasan, Negros Oriental.

Gualberto Islaw, 46, married and a resident of Tambulan, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, initial police reports said.

Police investigation showed that Islaw was refereeing the “hantak” game when an unidentified man with a firearm of unknown caliber came up to him,  shot him several times, and fled immediately.

The identity of the suspect and the motive for the killing have still not been determined yet by the police.* JFP
