Noreco 2 BoD faces
disqualification

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

An electric consumer in Dumaguete City has filed a disqualification complaint against a member of the board of directors of the Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative for alleged nepotism.

This developed as the election for members of the board of directors of the cooperative, particularly in District 5 which is Dumaguete South, is scheduled for next month.   District 5 is presently represented in the board by director Ricardo Maputi.

Roland Ramos of the Land Transportation Office Dumaguete City vehemently denied that he orchestrated the filing of the  disqualification complaint against Maputi, upon filing his certificate of candidacy Saturday.

Philippine National Police operatives arrested recently in Siaton, Negros Oriental, a man with an “unlicensed” firearm and several rounds of ammunitions. Intelligence operations team members of the PNP Provincial Safety Company and the Siaton police arrested Nicarter Balbuena, Sr., of Barangay Napacao in Siaton, when he failed to present documents allowing him to possess a firearm and ammunitions.

The raid was conducted by virtue of a search warrant dated January 20, 2012issued by acting provincial Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio.

Relatives of Balbuena allegedly put up resistance and attempted to prevent the search from taking place but the police proceeded with the search that yielded a .45 caliber pistol, empty magazines and several rounds of live ammunition.
