‘It all began in Canada’

IVY

When Bacolod’s Karyn Lamig went to Canada, the first job she got was at Tim Hortons (Canada’s version of Starbucks). There she met the branch manager, Shaun D’Souza, a tall Canadian-Pakistani, who immediately had a crush on the pretty Bacoleña. He made her feel so cherished and comfortable that it wasn’t long before the two became good friends. Karyn found Shaun to be very sweet, thoughtful and understanding. Out of the friendship, love blossomed as the two fun-loving friends had a glorious time going to all the fun places they could visit. “He won’t start the day without saying I love you”, she said. One day, while they were having dinner at Harrison Hot Springs, Karyn was surprised to see Shaun kneel before her holding a ring. Of course she said yes, and they became engaged.

The two decided that their wedding should be held here where her family and friends could attend. The wedding preparations took one year with the bride’s aunt, ABS-CBN’S make-up artist Neneng Pecha, as organizer. About 20 guests arrived from Canada and Pakistan. It was a lovely wedding ceremony held at the Queen of Peace Church, with the ladies wearing their glamorous attires and the gentlemen in their formal suits. The bride looked positively luminous in her bouffant wedding gown as her groom waited for her at the altar. It was a fun reception at L’Fisher Hotel with Anthony and Jonali Visitacion as emcees. Everyone let their hair down as they participated in the games, dancing and testimonies from the people close to the newly-weds. Shaun’s mom became a bit misty-eyed as she recalled how he wrote a letter to her when she got sick, asking her to get better so they could spend good times again.

The groom later requested for Celine Dion’s, “Because You Love me”, so he could dance with his mom. To Shaun and Karyn, may you always be as happy and in love as you

were on your wedding day.*
