Army relieves 62nd IB chief
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Col. Jose Ely Alberto was relieved as commander of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, effective Monday, for still unknown reasons.

Maj. Avelino Moradillo, executive officer of the 62IB, temporarily took over the position vacated by Alberto, who had been barely four months in the position, pending the designation of the new commander.

Lt. Col. Isabelo de los Reyes, 303rd Infantry Brigade Civil Military Operations Officer, yesterday said Alberto reported on Tuesday to the 3rd Infantry Division headquarters at Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz.

Military records show that the arrest of Romeo Nanta, regional commander of the New People’s Army in Negros island, and the successive encounters with the NPA in northern Negros, that led to the disarray of rebel forces, were among the major accomplishments of Alberto whose new assignment has not been determined yet. *GPB
